Matthew’s civil litigation practice focuses on insurance coverage disputes. He has experience advising insurers on complex coverage questions and avoidance of bad faith claims handling practices for a wide variety of commercial insurance products, including CGL, D&O, professional liability, umbrella and excess layer policies, and others. Additionally, Matthew has experience representing and defending insurers in actions for declaratory judgment, breach of contract, and other civil claims.
Matthew also defends employers against discrimination, retaliation, and sexual harassment claims, and he defends employers in wage and hour and other employment matters. In addition, he provides employers with advice and counsel with a focus on preventing claims.
Prior to joining Peabody & Arnold, Matthew clerked for the Honorable Jennifer S. D. Roberts of the Massachusetts Land Court, where he assisted in drafting memoranda, orders, and decisions on oftentimes complex and novel real estate issues arising throughout the Commonwealth.
Matthew received his Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School. During law school, he gained exposure to a wide variety of civil and criminal issues by serving as a judicial intern for the Honorable Michael L. Fabbri at the Massachusetts District Court, the Honorable Frank M. Gaziano at the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, and the Honorable Nathaniel M. Gorton at the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. He also served as a summer research assistant to his legal writing professor.
